Botox vs. Dysport vs. Fillers: Which Is Right for You?

The most common consultation question we hear is some version of: "Do I need Botox or fillers?" They are different prescription products for different goals. A consultation determines whether either is appropriate, without assuming everyone needs both.
What each one is, in one sentence
- Botox is a neuromodulator that temporarily relaxes the muscles that pull on your skin and create wrinkles when you make expressions.
- Dysport is another prescription botulinum-toxin product. Its labeled units, indications, preparation, and prescribing information are product-specific.
- Injectable products include hyaluronic-acid fillers such as Juvederm, Voluma, and Versa, as well as products such as Sculptra and Radiesse. They are not one interchangeable family; product, area, risk, reversibility, and expected duration require injector review.
Botox and Dysport do not add volume. Fillers do not stop wrinkles caused by movement. They are not interchangeable, and the marketing materials that lump them together are doing you a disservice.
The simplest way to decide
Do not choose a prescription injectable from an online wrinkle test. A qualified prescriber evaluates movement at rest and in expression, anatomy, medical history, medications, prior procedures, goals, and product-specific risks. Age alone does not determine whether a botulinum-toxin product, filler, biostimulator, another option, or no treatment is appropriate.
Botox vs. Dysport: the honest difference
Botox and Dysport are botulinum-toxin products with specific approved indications. Their labeled units are not interchangeable, and product choice depends on assessment, anatomy, goals, and each product's prescribing information.
- Onset and duration: vary by product, indication, dose, anatomy, and individual response. Review the prescribing information and the prescriber's follow-up plan rather than relying on a universal day count.
- Placement and risk: are clinical decisions. “Spread” should not be used as a consumer shortcut for choosing a product or treatment area.
- Current price: see the live Square booking menu for this service and its available packages.
A prior response is useful history, but it does not replace a new assessment. The prescriber should explain why a product is being considered, the labeled or off-label treatment area, expected timeline, alternatives, risks, and total quote before treatment.
Fillers: the real internal map
Within the filler family, the choices matter a lot. The wrong filler in the wrong place is what creates the "overdone" look people fear.
- Current price: see the live Square booking menu for this service and its available packages.
The point: an experienced injector picks the right filler for the right anatomical area. If a practice uses one filler for everything, that's a red flag.
How a plan is built
The provider starts with one priority: movement, lost volume, or a gradual biostimulator goal. If more than one category may be appropriate, the product, dose or amount, risk, reversibility, timeline, and price are explained separately. We do not recommend a universal stack by age.
What we don't do
- Lip overfilling. If your goal is the cartoonish "duck" look, you'll need to find another practice. We optimize for the natural-but-better aesthetic.
- Filler in skin that's actively breaking out. We delay until skin is calm.
- A universal treatment calendar. The provider decides whether to perform or space treatments based on the products, area, and your history.
- Aggressive packages for first-timers. Any decision to stage or combine products belongs in the prescriber's individualized plan; a consultation does not obligate you to buy a package.
